I earned both my undergraduate and masters degrees in teaching from Stephen F. Austin State University. My undergraduate work focused on early childhood and elementary education which allowed me to move to South Korea where I taught English as a Foreign Language for K-6th grade students. While there I began work on my Masters degree which focused on elementary and middle school mathematics and the pedagogy behind student learning in general. I finished this degree once I had moved back to the US- in the Mohave desert of California.
After moving back to the United States I taught online EFL classes while finishing my Masters degree and then moved into the classroom while simultaneously operating my own small business. My business began as reading and math interventions two days per week but soon grew to include another of my passions, the arts. I added in voice and dance classes multiple times per week for students of all ages. My favorite, and specialty, was ballet! This business closed in 2015 due to a cross-country move when my marriage ended but, before closing, it operated 6 days a week with additional summer intensive programs.
I moved back to Texas (I'm originally from Alabama but spent most of my childhood in the DFW area) seven years ago and began a new career in Human Resources and Risk Management... but I'll never forget my love of teaching. I still teach online in the mornings and read journals and publications relating to the field regularly in addition to those in my new career field.
In my personal time I enjoy music and dance in the form of German folk dancing and singing in a Sweet Adelines International barbershop chorus. When not working on any of these ventures (or this web page and its related content) you can probably find me doing one of the following at my home near Fort Worth, Texas:
