My health is an ongoing struggle for me, like it is for many others I'm sure. I have several chronic illnesses that I work to manage daily in addition to the 'normal' things like weight loss, eating well, maintaining mental well being and etc. but, honestly, I think that those things take up at least as much of my energy as the illnesses. I've discovered a passion for researching alternative treatments as well as cooking over the past few years as I've worked towards a healthier self.

If you're interested in following along as I try to lose weight, try alternative treatments and popular wellness trends, research my conditions and generally work towards a healthy self this is your spot.

Until the Health Journey page is up...

You probably want to know what exactly I mean by 'multiple chronic illnesses' from above and as the Health Journey page won't be up and running for a while yet with my current schedule I figured I'd give you a quick synopsis till then. I have Dysautonomia, MCAD, Asthma, MTHFR, IBS, PTSD, migraines, insomnia, collagen issues (think common sprains and dislocations) and cannot eat gluten. The doctor says we'd have to get me back to eating gluten to test if its an allergy or Celiac and so far all attempts to reintroduce gluten have gone badly so we've decided to stop pursuing an official diagnosis for now. There are other issues that are more than likely just a symptom of one of the other problems (such as chronic pain and, at times, depression) but for now that pretty much sums up a stack of medical files that would fill a full shelf on my bookshelf. I talk openly about my health problems not to gain sympathy but to spread awareness and encourage those who are struggling as well. For instance, did you know that the average time for someone to be diagnosed with POTS- a subset of dysautonomia- is 6 YEARS! More awareness and research for these conditions means less time suffering without answers, which is something I'd love to be part of stopping.

For now, head over to follow my weight loss journey. I've gone Keto as it makes me feel awesome and its actually working to get the weight off- which has been a major struggle of mine for as long as I can remember. The doctor says carbs = sugar = more histamine in my system so that may be one of the reasons my health is better on Keto. This obviously is a super simplistic explanation and likely not even close to what a a full research study of MCAD and Keto would turn up but she is aware of my low carb journey and supports it.
